We are Commanded to be Perfect
This week has been pretty great!
From many places in the Book of Mormon and from General Conference talks this is what I learned and grew my testimony of this week:
We are commanded to be perfect. Yet we alone can never be perfect. The only reason this commandment can exist without violating God's power is because of Jesus. Jesus lived a perfect life, but not just that, I've talked a lot about how He was our perfect example, but this week the reality of His perfect sacrifice has come into my soul with greater power than ever before. This commandment is not a "hammer to batter ourselves with" it is a gift, a promise that no matter how life ends up, no matter how long you live, how much money you make, how many kids you have, what family you were born in,
where you live, and no matter what mistakes you've made, the perfect sacrifice from our perfect Savior, Jesus Christ, will make you perfect if you seek Him with all your heart, might, mind, and strength. The truth has been told, it has been restored to the Earth, it is Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ's church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Charity, the pure love of Christ, and perfect forgiveness, the pure mercy of Christ. I am learning a lot from my compaion, Elder Johnson. One thing he does is anytime I apologize for something, even something tiny that I didn't need to apologize for, he says "I forgive you." At first I was kinda like what?? I wasn't actually sorry because I didn't actually do anything, but then over the past three weeks I have seen him respond with "I forgive you" to everything, even things that are big. If I spill water all over the table or make another mess, I say sorry and then He forgives me and helps me clean it up. If I bike the wrong way for half a mile and then realize late, all he says is "I forgive you" and starts peddling. No frustration or hard feelings, just genuine forgiveness and love. This week our sunday school class was about the talk "Words Matter" from general conference by Elder Rasband. In that talk he emphasizes three important phrases we need to use often "Thank you," "I'm sorry," and "I love you." Those are super important but it is also equally important how we respond when those things are said to us. We need to forgive not just 70×7 but an infinite amount, because that is what our Savior did for us. We watched the Joseph Smith movie of the Gospel Library app today and I saw Joseph forgiving and showing grace to those around him, I want to be work to become more like the Savior as Joseph did and as Elder Johnson is doing.
Highlights:
Personal Study of course
Elder Johnson getting his eyebrows dyed and then bleaching them back to the normal color ourselves.
Playing my violin in this live house/bar thingy on Sunday night.
Eating so much Pineapple that literally tastes like candy and other fruits like mango, dragon fruit, and bananas that the members give us. (All grown by them except the pineapple I think)
Elder Johnson be my Sugar Douryou (companion) .... He goes home soon and has lots of extra money he needs to spend before he goes home.
God knows me and He knows you. He knows your name and He wants to guide you.
I love yall!
