Rain, North Korean Missiles, and More Rain
Hello everyone! It's officially June! I can't believe I started in January! Thank you to all those who send me emails every week, I love you so much!
Exchanges: Elder Barrus!
Elder Barrus is amazing! He is our amazing district leader over the Ishigaki/Miyako Island district! Preach my Gospel teaches how we can use the Book of Mormon to teach the "questions of the soul!" Examples: https://docs.google.com/ presentation/d/ 1p6bEI8qfYmEa3duCICeQ7FF5KD8ow 0JT9ccvO2E9rPs/edit?usp= drivesdk Elder barrus was super good at helping our friends gain interest using these questions! I want to learn to do that!
Zone Confrence!
Today we traveled to Naha for Zone Conference tomorrow! (we had service during pday time so now counts as pday) We played volleyball and a few games after the service project, the weather in Naha is perfect today! Like I was almost cold when we were waiting to be picked up from our flight. I had my first (and last) real interview with President Hara (he leaves in 3 weeks :( ) and then me and Elder Nagao went to a super yummy steak place for dinner!
North Korean Missle
On Monday (or Tuesday?) night we wer getting ready for bed and then our phones went off with a alert that a missle had been launched from North Korea and to seek shelter. (We are like the closest Japanese Island with a good amount of people.) It ended up just being a rocket to put a satelite in space but it blew up before it got there.
Rain
Yep, it rains a lot here. Not much we can do about it so we just keep going! And just wait... Typhoon season hasn't even started yet :)
President Nelson ... 1956
Ok a little background, in general (not always!) most Japanese people mind themselves more than other people. Thats great but sometimes it makes it hard to get feedback when you want to learn and grow. Two days ago we had a lesson and it went well but I still wanted feedback, it was like pulling teeth to get anything. One phrase that our mission president has said in the past is that "When someone does something, it makes perfect sense to them." I think that's great but I don't think he meant that to mean we don't ever correct or offer help to those people. I know I'm not the best teacher, and I want to become a better teacher. What I did made perfect sense to me, but that doesn't mean it was the best way. Yesterday during my personal study I was trying to find a way I could explain how we would help each other with love to Elder Nagao. I was praying to know what I should study (typically Book of Mormon with Come Follow Me/other promptings, Preach My Gospel (or other missionary resources), and then talks/words of modern day prophets.) I asked if I should study talks, and I felt good about it, I asked who, and I felt a picture of President Nelson appear in my head, I asked when and a number slowly appeared ... 1956. I was like what? 1956? President Nelson was 32? He wasn't an apostle or anything where I could find a talk from him. I asked "1956??" and the number didn't go away. I proceeded studying the previous things and when I got to President Nelson, I just looked up "President Nelson 1956." I found a video called "President Nelson: Healer of Hearts" on the Gospel Library about a surgery President Nelson had preformed on 1956, the first open heart surgery in Utah. I watched the video as carefully as possible and the doctors talked about President, Doctor Nelson's, operating room. They talked about how it was different than any other operating room. When someone preformed a task incorrectly, he "gently" explained why it was wrong, and then explained a possible better way. He made sure that he would "never degrade" anyone, and he always showed appreciation and gratitude to each person for the work they did. That's what I want all of my relationships to be like. That's the kind of companion I want to be, father, coworker, boss, and everything. I talked to Elder Nagao about that during our Companion Study and about how we could help each other better so hopefully we can from now on! Thank you Heavenly Father!
That has happened so many times, when I don't just ask God what I should do but I counsel with Him, I really see and feel His guidance. Ask Him to guide you in all things and He will, but He won't do it without you.
Virtuous, Lovely, or Praiseworthy
I love the 13th Article of Faith! It is sometimes hard to know what you should say to other people, if it is true it is easy to feel justified to say something, but this article of faith reminds us to communicate in a better way, like Christ did. Christ knew all the bad things that all the people around Him did, but He didn't embarrass them or call them out. He treated them all with love and said things to would help them come closer to Him, and grow past those bad things. We need to do the same, say things that help others grow closer too Christ.
I love you all!
Have a great week!
Treat others with love and help them grow with love!
-Elder Rasmussen :)
